Depression
One of the most common issues in teens is depression. The depression may manifest itself as irritability, withdrawal, apathy, general moodiness, loss of interest in things they used to enjoy or even thoughts of suicide.
Anxiety
Anxiety may result in the teen becoming so overwhelmed that they just shut down and avoid anything that creates short term stress even if it will result in more significant long term consequences. This may include not doing school work if they have fallen behind even though not doing the work insures more significant long term problems in school.
ADHD
This is often thought of as a lack of ability to pay attention in any setting. The reality is, it is a deficit of ability to direct and maintain one's attention on the most important thing at any given time. This results in boredom and frustration that may lead to them giving up and thinking school isn't for them.
